Return of the Obra Dinn Wiki

The End, part 4 is the final part of the last chapter in the plot of Return of the Obra Dinn. It reveals the fate of Captain Robert Witterel, the last surviving crew member aboard the Obra Dinn.

Overcome with grief, Captain Witterel sits beside his dead wife, Abigail. He laments the death of First Mate William Hoscut, her brother and his friend, whom he killed earlier in The End, part 1. The captain asks Abigail to forgive him for everything before shooting himself in the chest.

Things of interest[]

  • Two identities can be deduced in this scene: Abigail Hoscut Witterel, because the captain mentions her by her first name, and her brother, First Mate William Hoscut, due to Abigail keeping her maiden name as her middle name. On top of this, Captain Witterel says he shot Hoscut, singling him out as the person he refers to – the other two mutineers were killed in ways other than being shot.
  • The knife that topman Lewis Walker stabbed the captain with in The End, part 3 can be seen laying on the ground in the previous room, implying the captain pulled it out before sitting down by Abigail's body.
  • Captain Robert Witterel is #1 in the crew manifest, and he was the final crew member to die during the Obra Dinn's journey. In contrast, seaman Samuel Peters is #60 in the crew manifest, and he was the first crew member to die aboard the Obra Dinn back in Loose Cargo, part 1.

Where[]

This memory is accessed via a skeleton on the floor near the port side passenger cabins accessed from within the captain's quarters.

Areas[]

The stern of the main deck, the quarterdeck, two of the passenger cabins, and the captain's quarters can be accessed.

The exit door is located towards the front of the ship on the starboard side.
