The Doom, part 2 is the second part of chapter VII in the plot of Return of the Obra Dinn. It reveals the fate of artist Edward Spratt.

As the crew prepare for mealtime, Spratt is using the ship's head at the bow. Shortly after, the kraken crushes his chest.

• After viewing the diorama, four faces become unblurred:
  • Third mate's steward Roderick Andersen can be identified since he is carrying dishes for the third mate, and wearing a steward's uniform (the stewards' uniform can be seen hanging in their room on the gun deck in the present-day Obra Dinn).
  • Topman Wei Lee can be identified from his hammock's tag (#41) behind him.
  • Lee is conversing over drinks with seaman George Shirley, who can be identified when comparing this scene to A Bitter Cold, part 1: Shirley's hammock (#59) was present in this exact location back then, while all the other hammocks in this spot were those of Chinese crew members.
  • Leonid Volkov can be identified as the last surviving Russian crew member, as his hammock (#45) is the only one remaining in the three Russians' sleeping location, and Volkov himself is currently asleep in it.
• A scimitar is seen hanging by the empty hammock tagged #36, indicating it belongs to topman Omid Gul. Gul used this scimitar earlier in battle during parts 4, 7, and 8 of chapter VI (though a new player has typically not seen chapter VI yet by the time they find this memory). Gul himself is topside, looking out to sea, presumably trying to locate the lifeboat that departed in the previous scene.
• Fourth Mate John Davies and his steward Davey James are also topside, tending to the dead body of seaman Lars Linde.
• An empty hammock labeled #48 can be seen, indicating the Peters brother who is still alive is Nathan Peters rather than Samuel Peters.

Where

This memory is accessed via a skull and bones on the bow on the gun deck. The port side door to the bow in the galley opens after viewing The Doom, part 5 or Soldiers of the Sea, part 3.

Areas

Front parts of the gun deck and the main deck until the main-mast are accessible. The exit is next to the bosun's mate's room.
