The Calling, part 1 is the first part of chapter IV in the plot of Return of the Obra Dinn. It reveals the fate of topman Li Hong.
Out on the open sea, Second Mate Edward Nichols leads his mutineers on an expedition to the Canary Islands. The kidnapped passengers It-Beng Sia and Bun-Lan Lim worry about their chest falling into the ocean and drawing in monsters. Hong voices confusion about their conversation, but is cut off by a mermaid hurling a spear at him.
Things of interest[]
- In case she has not yet been identified, passenger Bun-Lan Lim's name is mentioned in the English translation as "Miss Lim" (though not in the original Hokkien dialogue). She is the only woman in the scene and is addressed as Miss (小姐).
- In case a player has not already identified Li Hong as Chinese by his appearance, this scene heavily hints at his nationality since he is able to understand and translate the word "monsters" (怪物) from the Hokkien spoken by It-Beng Sia.
- Seaman Aleksei Toporov can be identified by the unique pipe he is smoking and his bag in the lifeboat right next to him, both of which were previously visible by his hammock (#47) in A Bitter Cold, part 1.
